Deutsche Manager verwenden zuviele Erklärungen für Amerikaner

German business leaders often sabotage their own change efforts in the USA by spending far too much of their time explaining what’s not right, what needs to be improved, and why their way is better. Anyone who understands American business knows that this approach is flawed and can never succeed. Why not?

Erklärungen sind in den USA unerwünscht

To start with, an unsolicited explanation is offensive to Americans. It is seen as the behavior of a “know-it-all,” someone who is coming from “on high” to criticize us, and that will never be accepted. Of course, equally important in affecting change is to get the balance of your message right. It should consist of two-thirds recognition, praise, and appreciation for the successes and accomplishments achieved thus far, and one-third finding a SOLUTION-FOCUSED way forward: We are here (a statement of the facts, free of blame). We need to be there (a common goal). How do we get there best? Asking a question instead of providing an explanation at the end of the message transfers ownership and responsibility and it motivates the American counterparts.https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7023969565814456320/
